Launch of Grab-NUS AI Lab

18 July 2018: The Grab-NUS AI Lab has been launched and set up as a joint lab between Grab and NUS. It is Grab’s first major AI laboratory and NUS’ first AI laboratory with a commercial partner. The Media Management Research Lab is leading one of the five sub-projects that is focusing on Location AI technologies. More information on the launch can be found in the press release.

Grand Challenge Award at IEEE ICME 2018

25 July 2018: PhD student Abdelhak Bentaleb won the first prize award in the Grand Challenge on Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP hosted by the DASH-IF at the IEEE ICME 2018 conference held in San Diego, California, USA, from 23-27 July 2018. The press release can be found here and the DASH-IF announced the following winners:

  • WINNER: “Game Theory Based Bitrate Adaptation for dash.js Reference Player” by Abdelhak Bentaleb, Ali Begen, Roger Zimmermann
  • RUNNER-UP: “Tile-based QoE-driven HTTP/2 Streaming System for 360 Video” by Zhimin Xu, Yixuan Ban, Kai Zhang, Lan Xie, Xinggong Zhang, Zongming Guo, Shengbin Meng, Yue Wang

More information about the implementation of the game theory based bitrate adaptation algorithm (GTA) in the dash.js reference player, including its source code, can be found on the website.
